Global Reach

Easy to start

Digital Products offer a couple of amazing benefits. One of them is that anyone can create them. This obviously doesn’t mean everyone should. But if you have skills and knowledge on certain topic, and you know it help solve other people’s problems, creating a selling a digital product is for you. You can create and sell them from your computer completely for free. I will show you how later.

Passive income

Digital Products have the potential to generate passive income. Once you create and launch your digital product, it can be sold repeatedly without the need for your involvement. This means you can earn money while you sleep or focus on other aspects of your business. With the right marketing and sales strategy, your digital product can become a consistent source of passive income.

Unlike physical products that have limitations when it comes to production and distribution, digital products have remarkable scalability. You can sell your digital product to an unlimited number of customers without worrying about inventory or production constraints.

Flexibility & Creative freedom

As a creator, you have the freedom to choose the format, topic, and style of your digital product. This allows you to tap into your skills and create content that resonates with your audience. Digital products also provide the freedom to update and refine your offerings based on customer feedback and market trends, ensuring your products stay relevant and valuable.

Global Reach

Boundaries don’t exist, they cannot limit your market reach. The internet allows you to sell your digital products to customers worldwide. This global reach opens up exciting opportunities for growth, exposure, and increased sales.

There are 5 main steps when it comes to creating your Digital Product:

Let’s go through them in detail.

How to create a Digital Product

The two main things you will need to define when starting with Digital Products is:

And then, you can create a product that solves this problem! So easy right? This is how I started with Digital products in the first place. I created guides, templates, checklists for myself, and then I thought, well, maybe someone else also has my problems that these now called Digital Products can solve. And sure they did.

Even after you found your audience and how to solve one of their problems, please, do your research. It can be possible, that the product you thought of already exists, or that maybe your audience doesn’t actually have this problem in the first place. There are many ways to go about your research

  • Check Facebook groups of your audience and ask them, or observe;
  • Spy on salability of similar products and their reviews on the market and make notes;
  • Do keyword research or trends research;
  • Ask people from your audience on social media, if they would be interested of buying such Digital Product.

Choose the Type of Digital Product

Once you know, what kind of Digital Product you want to create, what problem for an audience you will solve and that the audience is actually interested in your solution, let’s talk about creating it, woohoo! As we talked about above, Digital Products offer an amazing flexibility and creative freedom. It is up to you to choose, what form will your digital product take. Some popular options include e-books, online courses, templates, audio recordings, or video tutorials, checklists…

Create the Content

Now comes the hard part (although doesn’t have to be). There are two ways to go:

  • Create the product yourself;
  • Re-create an already existing product with MRR (Master resell rights) or PLR (Private label rights).

Master resell rights or Private label rights are a Shortcut to selling Digital Products online

Creating the product, you go the long way. But it is up to you, how you want the product to look like, what you want it to be. You can share the knowledge you have or help out people with your own solution to their problem.

Re-creating or simply just reselling Digital Products online has gotten them quite a bad reputation. What it simply means, is that by buying a product from someone else, they are giving you the right to re-sell it as your own and earn money. Lots of people see it as a shortcut to making easy money online (which it can be).

Design the product

If you go along the way of creating a product yourself, now comes the hard part. After you choose a problem you want to solve for a specific audience, choose a format of your Digital Product and create its structure. This process can vary so much, depending on what you are creating. With tools available for free and AI on the rise, this process can become much easier. Here are some tools you can use:

  • Canva – to help you design;
  • Chat GPT – to help you brainstorm;
  • – to help you write;
  • Loom – to help you record.

It’s helpful if your product is not only valuable, but also aestheticaly pleasing. Think of anything that will make you stand out.

How to sell a Digital Product

Set up your Sales Platform

Let’s say you are done with creating your Digital Product, lots of sweat and tear went into it, and now you are ready to make some passive income. The next step is choosing how to sell it. There are many platforms, that by few clicks and for free allow you to sell your Digital Products. Here are a few of them I’d recommend to check out:

    • Gumroad – free marketplace with 10% fee after you make a sale. It is easy to use, gives you analytics and dashboard to track your sales and looks very good. It is a platform I use as well;
    • Stanstore – a popular choice of many creators. Allows you to do the same as Gumroad, but with a different pricing. You can use 14 days free, then pricing starts from $29 a month up to $99 a month for a PRO plan;
    • Etsy – you have for sure heard about Etsy. You can sell anything on there. Its advantage is, that there is a lot of organic traffic you can get on your products. The negative is, that there is a lot of competition. Etsy has lots of different fees like Transaction fee, Listing fee etc. that can vary based on country;
    • Your own website – if you want to avoid any kind of fees, you can set up a shop on your own website. This requires a lot of setting up and has potential setbacks, like lack of trust etc. For starting out, it is much easier to use a platform that already has everything you need to start.

Promote & Scale

It is important to promote your Digital Product as many ways as you can.  Leverage content marketing through blog posts, social media, email newsletters, or guest blogging to reach your target audience. If you are not an expert, an easy way to get the word out is by posting on social media. You can use Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, Facebook, X and so on and promoting your product by creating content like photos, reels, carousels. Again, there is a lot of creativity and flexibility to choose, what suits you best.
